Privacy Policy
Short version: almost everything stays on your phone. Your family pictures, notes, photos, videos, settings and step history are kept on your device and are never uploaded by us. We don't show ads, we don't use tracking or analytics, and we don't sell or share personal data. The only things that leave your phone are a rounded location (to get the weather) and, only if you join a step race, your race name and daily steps.
1. What stays on your phone
- Family pictures and names you add for the clock (and their birthdays).
- Notes, including the photos and short videos you add to them, and anything you draw or write on photos.
- Your settings, your steps goal, and the app's own daily record of your steps.
We have no copy of these. They are deleted when you remove them in the app, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app.
2. Permissions the app asks for, and why
- Approximate location (city level, not precise GPS): to show your local weather and the real sunrise and sunset. You can type a city instead, or say no and the app still works.
- Physical activity and, if you choose, Health Connect (read only): to show today's steps and heart rate. These readings stay on your phone, except your daily step count if you join a step race (section 4).
- Calendar (read only, if you choose): to show your next appointment on the clock. Your calendar is read on your phone and never sent anywhere.
- Camera and photos: only when you choose to add a picture or a video. The phone's own camera or picker is used, and the picture stays in the app on your phone.
- Vibration: for gentle buzzes such as reminders. You can turn it off, and set quiet hours.
3. Weather
To get the weather, the app sends a rounded location (about 1 km) to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), which provides the weather data. No name, account or device ID is sent. MET Norway's own privacy terms apply to that request. If you type a city, the phone's built-in place lookup turns it into a location.
4. Step race (optional)
If you start or join a step race, these are sent to our race service (run on Cloudflare) and shown to the people in that race:
- the race name you choose to show (it does not have to be your real name) and your turtle colour;
- your number of steps each day and your daily goal;
- the race's name and join code.
No email, phone number, photo or location is sent. Anyone with a race's join code can join it, unless the person who started it locks the race. When you leave a race, or are removed from it, your race name and steps for that race are deleted from the service. A race with nobody left in it is deleted. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may keep short technical logs (such as IP addresses) for security, under its own privacy policy.
5. Sharing notes
When you share notes as a PDF, the PDF is made on your phone and handed to the app you choose (for example your email app). We never see it.
6. Children
Paj Ntaub Watch is meant to be set up by parents and adults. It is not directed at children under 13. Children's pictures added by a parent stay on that parent's phone. A step race shares only a chosen name and step counts, and a parent should decide whether a child takes part.
7. Your choices
- Deny or remove any permission in your phone's settings. The clock keeps working without it.
- Remove a family member, a note, a photo or a video at any time in the app.
- Leave any step race in Settings → Step race.
- Uninstall the app to remove everything it keeps on your phone.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. Important changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
